Recovering data from a broken computer
The machine has stopped working, but your photos, documents and records are still on it. That is usually the real problem.
What you notice
- The computer will not start, and there are photos on it you have nowhere else.
- The screen is broken, so you cannot get at it yourself.
- It was dropped, or liquid got into it.
- There is a message about a drive that can no longer be read.
- Years of records sit on that one machine.
What we do about it
We take the storage out and try to read it on our own equipment. A computer that will not start often does not mean the data is gone: usually something else is broken.
We look at what can still be retrieved before anything is repaired. Otherwise a repair risks overwriting exactly what you wanted back.
We tell you honestly what the chances are. Sometimes everything is still there. Sometimes part of it. And sometimes a drive is damaged beyond reading, in which case you deserve to hear that rather than watch us keep trying.
Please do not keep restarting it or run recovery software yourself. That usually lowers the odds rather than raising them.
Switch it off and leave it. Call us and we will look before more is lost.
