Battery drains quickly
From a whole afternoon to an hour. It happens gradually, until it suddenly gets in the way.
What you notice
- It drains far faster than it used to.
- It cuts out while a percentage is still showing.
- The percentage jumps around.
- It is swelling, or the casing is bulging.
- It only lasts while plugged in.
What we do about it
Batteries wear out; that is normal. We measure how much is left, so you are not deciding on a hunch whether replacing is worth it.
If the percentage jumps around, the measurement is off. That can sometimes be corrected without replacement.
Is the battery swelling, or is the machine getting thicker? Stop using it and do not charge it. That is the one battery complaint where we say: put it down and call.
We say honestly whether a new battery is worth it on your machine. On an older laptop sometimes it is not.
