Broken or cracked screen
A cracked or black screen almost never means the computer behind it is broken, and certainly not that your files are gone.
What you notice
- The screen is cracked or has patches.
- Lines run across the picture.
- It stays black while you can hear it running.
- The picture flickers or comes and goes.
- There are photos and documents on it you need.
What we do about it
We connect the machine to an external screen first. If a picture appears there, we know immediately that only the screen is broken and everything behind it still works.
If you would rather not repair it, we get your files off and move them elsewhere. That is a perfectly good outcome too.
For a replacement we say honestly what a screen costs against what the machine is still worth. On an older laptop that is sometimes not a sensible spend.
You can test whether it is the screen by connecting it to a TV. If you already know, we are quicker.
