Bluetooth not working
Headphones, a speaker or a mouse that will not pair, or keeps dropping out.
What you notice
- The device is not found when pairing.
- It pairs but drops out shortly after.
- Audio stutters or lags behind the picture.
- Since an update Bluetooth has vanished from the settings entirely.
- It works on your phone but not on the computer.
What we do about it
Bluetooth vanishing from settings after an update is nearly always a driver, not broken hardware. That can be put back.
Dropping connections often relate to Wi-Fi, because the two share the same space. So we look at both.
When audio lags behind the picture there is usually a setting favouring quality over speed, or the reverse.
Do not buy new headphones before this is looked at. Nine times out of ten it is the computer.
