Laptop will not charge
The charger is plugged in and nothing happens, or only if you hold the plug just so.
What you notice
- It no longer charges, not even switched off.
- It only charges with the cable at a certain angle.
- The light on the charger is off.
- It drains while plugged in.
- It says charging, but the percentage does not rise.
What we do about it
Charging only at a certain angle points to the socket or the cable, not the battery. That is a smaller repair than people expect.
Draining while plugged in usually means the charger supplies less than the machine asks for. That often happens with a replacement charger not matched to the device.
We establish which it is first: charger, socket or battery. That saves you replacing something that was not broken.
Do not buy a new battery straight away. In most cases that is not it.
