No sound
Silence where there should be sound, and you have checked the volume three times.
What you notice
- There is no sound at all.
- Headphones work but the speakers do not.
- It works in one program and not another.
- It vanished after an update.
- The sound crackles or cuts out.
What we do about it
Windows can send sound to several places: speakers, screen, headphones or a Bluetooth device. Nearly always it is set to the wrong one. That is what we check first.
If headphones work, the sound itself is fine and it is the speakers or the output. That is useful information, so do mention it.
Sound gone after an update is usually a driver that needs setting up again.
This is often solved in one phone call. Do call before arranging a visit.
